One of the Prophet’s honorable and praised companions was a woman named Umm Sulaym, may Allah raise her rank. She was the mother of Anas ibn Malek..
One day, Umm Sulaym used her goat milk to make a delicious semi-fluid butter called ghee. She placed the ghee in a special clay jug used to store the butter. As Umm Sulaym was putting the ghee away a thought came to her. She decided to give the ghee to the Prophet as a gift.
Umm Sulaym gave her servant specific instructions to take the jug to the Prophet, peace be upon him. She did not want her servant to just drop the jug off, rather she wanted the jug safely delivered to the Prophet so that he and his wives could eat from the ghee. So the servant went on her way being extra careful not to drop the jug.
When the servant reached the Prophet’s residence, she said, “Oh Prophet of Allah, this is a jug of ghee sent to you from Umm Sulaym.” The generous Prophet, peace be upon him, said to one of his wives, “Empty out the jug and then return it to her.” So the jug was emptied of the ghee and returned to Umm Sulaym by way of her servant.
The servant returned to Umm Sulaym’s residence to find that Umm Sulaym was not home. She had gone out to run some errands. So the servant simply put the jug in its original place. When Umm Sulaym returned she found that the jug was full of ghee. This surprised Umm Sulaym . She said to her servant, “I asked that you take this jug to the Prophet.” The servant replied, “I swear by Allah I took it to him. ” Umm Sulaym said, “Look. The jug is full. How is that possible?” The servant said, “If you do not believe me, go to the Prophet and ask him.”
Umm Sulaym and her servant set out to the Prophet’s house. Umm Sulaym said to the Prophet, “Oh Prophet of Allah, I sent her with a jug full of ghee for you.” The Prophet said, “She did as she was told. She came to us, we received the jug, and ate what was in it. All praise is due to Allah.”
Umm Sulaym became more confused. She said to the Prophet, “I swear by the One who sent you with the truth, the jug is in our house now and it is full of ghee.” The Honorable Prophet said, “Oh Umm Sulaym, do you wonder at the fact that Allah has provided you with food as you have provided his Prophet with food. Eat from it and feed those you wish to feed.”
Then Umm Sulaym understood. She gave out from the blessed ghee to the houses around her, to many of the companions. She and her family ate from it during the rest of the Prophet’s life, the caliphates of Abu Bark, ^Umar, and Uthman, may Allah raise all of their ranks.
تكثير النبيِّ السمْنَ لأُمِّ سُلَيْم بإذن الله
كانت الصحابية الجليلة أُمُّ سُلَيْم رضي الله عنها أمًّا لسيدنا أنس بن مالك رضي اللهُ عنه، وذات يوم صنعت من حليبِ شاةٍ لها سمنًا لذيذًا فوضعته في عُكّة وهي إناء من فخارٍ يوضع به السمن حتى امتلأت ، وفكَّرت في أن تُهديها لرسول الله عليه الصلاة والسلام حُبًّا بالخير.
أرسلت السيّدة أمّ سُلَيْم رضي الله عنها عُكَّة السمن مع خادمتها وأوصتها أن تنتبه كي لا تقع منها وأن توصلها سليمةً إلى النبيّ المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم ليأكل منها هو وزوجاته ، فراحت الخادمة وهي تَحْذر أن تقع منها العُكّةُ.
وصلت الخادمة إلى بيت رسول الله عليه الصلاة والسلام فقالت: يا رسول الله ، هذه عُكّة سمن بعثت بها إليك أم سُلَيْم ، فقال رسول الله الأكرم صلى الله عليه وسلم لإحدى زوجاته : أفرغوا لها عُكّتها ، فأفرغوا العكّة ثم أعطوها إياها وعادت بها.
لمّا رجعت الخادمة لم تجد أمَّ سُلَيم رضي الله عنها في البيت ، إذ قد خرجت لقضاء بعض حوائجها ، فعلّقت العُكةَ الفارغة على وتدٍ مغروز في الحائط وانتظرت خارجًا ، ولما عادت السيدة أم سُلَيْم نظرت فرأت العُكّة معلّقة وهي مملوءة سمنًا فاستغربت؟!
فقالت أُمُّ سُلَيْم للخادمة : ألستُ أمرتُك أن تنطلقي بها إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ؟ فقالت: قد فعلتُ والله، فقالت لها: انظري إليها إنها ملأى، كيف هذا ؟ فقالت الخادمة : إن لم تصدّقيني فانطلقي وسلي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم!.
انطلقت السيّدة أمّ سُلَيْم ومعها خادمتها حتى وصلت إلى دار النبيّ عليه الصلاة والسلام، فقالت له : يا رسول الله إني بعثت معها إليك بعُكّة فيها سمن ، فقال : قد فَعَلَتْ وجاءت إلينا واستلمنا منها العُكّة وأكلْنا ما فيها بحمد الله، فاستغربت أمّ سُلَيْمٍ أكثر.
وقالت للنبيّ عليه الصلاة والسلام: والذي بعثك بالحقّ ودين الحقّ، إنّ العُكَّة عندنا الآن وهي ممتلئةٌ تقطر سمنًا ، فقال لها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: يا أم سُلَيْم أتعجبين إن كان الله أطعمك كما أطعمت نبيّه؟ كلي وأطعمي، فعادت ووزّعت من هذا السمن المبارك على من حولها من بيوت الصحابة وأكلت منها هي وأسرتها بقيةَ عمر النبي عليه السلام ، وولايةَ أبي بكر وفي ولايةِ عمر وولاية عثمان رضي الله عنهم
