The Three Fish
Once upon a time three fish lived in a small stream, which poured into a big river. The three fish who lived there were very different. The first one, Jewel, was very energetic and everyone liked her.
She liked to work hard or have fun playing. The second fish, Breezy, was less energetic but she was very strong and could swim very fast and that’s why she was called Breezy. The third fish was the least active one and swam very slowly, that’s why she was called Lazy.
One day, two fishermen came to the stream and saw that there were a lot of fish in it. They agreed to come to the stream the next day and bring with them all their fishing gear.
When they left Jewel went to her two friends to see what they were going to do because she was scared. Breezy said, “I don’t think they will come back, and if they do I know how to save myself.” Lazy did not even bother to reply! Jewel decided that she would not wait around to see if the fishermen were going to return. She jumped from the stream to the big river and saved herself.
The next day the fishermen returned and put the fishing net
between the stream and the river so that if any fish wanted to escape they would catch them. When Breezy saw this she knew that she should have escaped when she had the chance, but she came up with a trick to save herself. She acted like she was dead and floated on the surface of the water with her stomach upturned. When the fishermen saw her they took her out of the water and put her on the edge of the stream. As soon as they turned around she jumped back into the river and saved herself.
The only fish left was Lazy and she did not know how to save herself. She started swimming, trying to escape, but she got caught in the net and was stuck there. The fishermen took her to the market and sold her.
Now my dear friends you know, that the person who sees something and takes action before it happens will save himself just like Jewel.
The person who is lazy, careless, and doesn’t make sure he is safe will be in danger; sometimes he can escape like Breezy, but sometimes he will be caught like Lazy.
